Course Get Ready for Independent Living

VCU's Center on Transition Innovations (CTI) has released a new online course for students with disabilities!

Get Ready for Independent Living

This course is designed to prepare high school students for a successful transition to greater independence. It’s free, self-paced, and eligible for 10 CRC credits.

The course focuses on four key areas of independent living skills:

    • Decision Making
    • Healthy Relationships
    • Transportation
    • Financial Management.

Each lesson includes:⠀

    • High-quality video lessons⠀
    • Portfolio activities⠀
    • Expanding Knowledge resources⠀
    • Fascinating Facts⠀

Course objectives are to:

  • Understand the decision making process and why it is important
  • Demonstrate the use of a decision making model
  • Discuss the importance of building healthy relationships
  • Identify tips for using social media safely to build friendships
  • Define financial management and why it is important
  • Learn about resources for managing personal finances
  • Describe what transportation skills are and why they’re important
  • Identify safety tips and ways to practice transportation skills.
