Lesson 4: Introduction to Workplace Readiness Skills

This lesson focuses on identifying and understanding the importance of the 21st Century Workplace Readiness Skills. Students will define workplace readiness skills, understand their importance in the workplace, and identify ways to improve their workplace readiness skills.

Learning From Experience

Have students share Page 5 (My Workplace Readiness Skills) of their WRS Lesson 4 Workbook with a family member. Instruct students to ask their family member to place an X beside the skill they agree with the rating. Encourage students to discuss any areas of disagreement and explore ways to resolve them.

Workplace Readiness Skills Rubric

This assessment tool from the VCU Center on Transition Innovations is used to determine a student's strengths and areas of instructional need for each workplace readiness skill.

Model Transition Program-Job Readiness Curriculum

The MTP Job Readiness Curriculum consists of 6 modules based on a workplace readiness theme. Initially designed for 11th- and 12th-grade students with disabilities who are transitioning from high school to the workplace or postsecondary education, this program can be modified based on students' needs and interests.
